Although this past year or so has been more couch potato than killer calorie burn, there’s still plenty ahead of us yet! We’ve banished that Blue Monday mood, hopped past Valentine’s Day and now it’s all about number one – you.
It’s time to push those chocolates aside and fall back in love with your goals again. No matter what you’re aiming for, we’ve got the know-how to get you motivated, excited and committed to achieving them!
Exercise doesn’t have to feel like an unnecessary Zoom call you’d rather avoid! Once it becomes a part of your regular routine, you’ll wonder what you ever did before. So let’s go, ladies, we’ve got this.
Prioritising self care
While much of the world remains in lockdown, our usual routines have gone out the window. We’re missing socialising with friends and family, catching up over a coffee and heading out to the gym at the drop of a hat. While many of us are working from home, it’s easier to remain in our PJs than switch into workout mode!
Nevertheless, it’s time to look after you – yep, YOU. Taking the time for self care is super important, lockdown or not. Whether you’re a fan of a good ol’ bubble bath, or simply curling up with a soppy book – Take some time out for you. It’s time to listen to your body’s needs and look after your mental health.
How you do it is totally up to you! But getting in the right frame of mind will really help you look ahead to your goals and carve the path to get there!
Our top 5 tips to get your goal mojo back
Regaining your love for exercise doesn’t have to be a dating disaster. While there might be highs, lows and very sweaty patches, that post-workout feeling is unbeatable!
Not feeling schmoozed by your goals just yet? Don’t worry, we’ve got some ideas to change that…
1. Keep having fun
When you’re having fun, exercise no longer feels like a chore. If you’ve been dragging your feet to complete a workout, it could be time to mix things up a little.
From bodyweight only exercises to virtual classes, there are so many opportunities to get sweaty without even leaving your house. Sometimes all we need is a little motivation from others to get us back on top of our game.
2. Decide on achievable goals (and celebrate them!)
Complete a run in record time? Celebrate it. Maybe you fought your way through 15 press ups rather than 10 – celebrate it! We all love hitting our goals, but not every milestone needs to be related to a number on the scales.
Once you start enjoying the process, you can celebrate the wins on the way. Each and every goal – however small – is working towards a bigger picture.
Plenty of us have put on a few pounds over the winter months, but it’s done and dusted and we’re doing something about it! So don’t forget to give yourself credit when you’re working hard to reach your goals.
3. Continue to learn new things
The Internet is your oyster! With so many new workouts, exercises and routines around, staying a student of exercise can help keep you motivated.
Spend some time discovering new exercises and challenging yourself, whether it’s a yoga pose or a HIIT workout. Just because the gyms are closed, it doesn’t mean your goals need to suffer.
4. Commit to your goals in different ways
Showing commitment to your goals can be done in a variety of ways! If you’re feeling super organised, why not block out the time in your calendar for your workout. When it’s there in black and white, you’ll feel less inclined to keep your butt on the couch. But make sure you add rest days in there too, to avoid burning yourself out.
With so many fitness apps on the market, committing to your goals can be helped by having a PT in your pocket! Whether you’re a running fan, or just getting started, tracking your progress is everything.
Plus, many apps are either free or offer free trials, so you can test them out before committing with your hard-earned cash.
5. Give yourself a break
Although it may feel like all we’ve done is rest these past few months, rest days are important for a number of reasons. Firstly, they help your body to repair from intense workouts. Secondly, they stop you from burning yourself out!
Rest days allow your body to refuel, so you have enough get-up-and-go for your next workout. When you get into the swing of things, you’ll quickly discover how much you can do before needing rest days in-between. Don’t forget to mark it out on your calendar (if you’re the organised type!) so you don’t lose track.
You made it! Now keep going!
I think we’re all in the same boat when I say it comes as no surprise we’ve let our goals slip in the past few months. Especially when the holidays are full of food, drinking and way too much chocolate. But don’t worry, been there, done that – it’s in the past! It’s time to move on up and smash those goals.
